Networks and WiFi

With computers and devices linked together through a network, computer networking has been an essential means of sharing information. It is a practice widely used today and  provides a multitude of benefits to home and businesses alike.  It does however come with many drawbacks - mainly security and risk of infections.  These can be countered with hardware and software firewalls and antivirus software.

One of the most widely used benefits of networking is the ability to share information and resources attached to the network.   Data such as documents, files, accounts information, reports, music and films etc can be shared with all compatible devices connected to your network.

Printers and scanners can also be shared easily when connected to networks making the purchase of one good quality printer all that is needed to provide families and small businesses with the ability to print and scan from any device.

Internet can be easily shared across networks allowing any device connected to the network to have connectivity.  This could also be classed as a disadvantage when trying to restrict access on some machines.  This can be overcome by having firewall hardware or software installed on the network.  Devices can be restricted to certain times of the day or can be excluded completely from accessing the internet or other devices (effectively rendering them stand alone).
